Lillian Ostrander

MSN, RN, MALS, and Certified Nurse Educator (CNE)

Happy Friday! Every Friday, I will give a shout-out to an amazing woman. This week, it is an honor to re-feature my mom, Lillian Negron Ostrander, MSN, RN, MALS, and Certified Nurse Educator (CNE).

It is my birthday tomorrow, and it feels fitting to celebrate and honor her today.

I first featured my mom in October 2022. I will link that post in the comments. The post highlights her career as a nurse and Full Professor of Nursing, where she has educated thousands of nursing students.

My mom was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, and grew up in Brooklyn, NY.

She met my father in NYC while working at a hospital, where he was an intern chaplain.

My parents were passionate about traveling, experiencing new things, and supporting each other in following their dreams. Sometimes, that meant moving to a new state, taking new jobs, and immersing themselves in new communities.

My dad passed away when I was young. Even during those tough times,  my mom was there for my brother and me, giving us unconditional love and support.

She took us on trips. She encouraged and supported us to try new things and pursue our passions. Because of this, I was bold enough to live internationally for six years in Spain, Turkey, and Mexico and take other big leaps in my life.

This photo is from November 2023. My mom and I took a three-week dream vacation to Australia and New Zealand.

I love that my mom has kept her spirit of traveling and experiencing new things during retirement.

She lives in Florida and has built a strong community there.

She plays pickleball and bocce ball, takes pilates and yoga, and is involved in different social groups. She continues to travel and is already talking about our next big adventure.

Thank you, mom! You are truly amazing!!
